EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen reports that the East Bridgewater Fire Department extinguished a kitchen fire at a home earlier today.
Just after 1 p.m., East Bridgewater Fire was dispatched to 469 Cedar St. for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, crews began work to extinguish flames in the kitchen of the home, which they were able to largely complete within 15 minutes of arriving on scene.
Firefighters were also able to safely remove a cat from inside the home and reunite it with the homeowner, who was home when the fire began and had made it safely outside. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
East Bridgewater Firefighters were assisted on scene by crews from the Whitman and Bridgewater Fire Departments, while members of the West Bridgewater Fire Department provided station coverage.
“The responding crews did an excellent job by swiftly responding and extinguishing this fire,” Chief Harhen said. “I want to thank them for their great work, as well as our mutual aid partners for their support.”
As a result of the fire, there was moderate heat damage to the first floor and smoke damage on the second floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Red Cross responded and is assisting the impacted residents.
