Scheduling a 26F Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspection

To request a 26F Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspection:

3. Select Request a 26F Inspection and complete the application

What to Expect 

• Please allow up to 14 days’ lead time when submitting a 26F inspection request. 

• We will respond to all requests within 3 business days of submission. 

During the Inspection 

1. All smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will be tested. Anyone who may be affected by the audible alarms should be notified in advance. 

2. Ensure all areas containing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are accessible. 

3. For the safety of residents, visitors, and Fire Department personnel, all pets and animals must be secured or kept in a separate area during the inspection. The inspector may refuse to conduct the inspection if animals are not properly secured. 

4. Payment is due at the time of inspection.  Only Checks and Money Orders will be accepted. 

5. Certificates are computer-generated and emailed to the responsible party within 24 hours following the inspection. 

6. Any deficiencies identified during the inspection will be explained at the conclusion of the visit. 

Important Information 

• 26F inspections are scheduled Monday through Thursday between 8:00 AM and 11:30 AM. 

• While every effort is made to arrive at the scheduled time, emergency incidents and call volume may occasionally cause delays. 

• Please ensure the property is accessible 15 minutes prior to your scheduled inspection time, allowing us to complete the inspection if we arrive early. 

Propane Storage Tanks, Fuel Oil Tanks & Oil Burner Inspections 

Permit Applications 

The installation contractor is responsible for submitting the appropriate permit application and required fee.

Inspection Requirements 

Interior Oil Tanks & Oil Burners 

The East Bridgewater Fire Prevention Office will contact the homeowner directly to schedule the inspection. 

Exterior Above-Ground Tanks 

Inspections are conducted without an appointment. 

Underground Tanks 

The installation contractor must: 

1. Contact the Fire Department prior to installation. 

2. Schedule an inspection before any backfilling occurs. The East Bridgewater Fire Department will make every effort to perform the inspection as soon as possible. 

Submission Deadlines 

1. All permit applications must be submitted within 7 days of work completion. 

2. The East Bridgewater Fire Department will make every effort to schedule inspections promptly. If a homeowner cannot be reached, the contractor will be notified after three unsuccessful contact attempts. 

3. East Bridgewater Fire Department will make every effort to schedule inspections in a timely manner, but after 30 days the East Bridgewater Fire Department does not inspect any installations, and the responsibility will be the installation contractor for the integrity of work performed. 

Notice Regarding Inspections 

The East Bridgewater Fire Department does not certify storage tanks, fuel oil tanks, oil burners, boilers, or related installations. 

Inspections conducted by the East Bridgewater Fire Department are performed for code compliance purposes only. These inspections do not certify the integrity, condition, performance, workmanship, or operational reliability of any tank, boiler, burner, equipment, or installation.
