Senior SAFE Program

Older adults are more than twice as likely to die in a fire as those younger than age 65 as older adults may experience physical and mental changes that make it hard to react quickly in emergencies. Whether it is on topics such as cooking safety, smoking, electrical hazards, storm preparation, or medical emergencies, the East Bridgewater Fire Department is committed to working with the senior population to prepare them in the event of an emergency.

A large part of senior safety starts at home and ensuring the senior population is properly protected if there were a fire.

East Bridgewater Fire Home Safety Visit Program

East Bridgewater Fire Engine

The East Bridgewater Fire Department offers free home safety visits to community residents. This voluntary visit allows a Fire Department member to assess your living environment for common life safety hazards and make recommendations to reduce the risk of home accidents and fires.

This program is available to any resident; however, senior citizens are the most at risk when it comes to the ability to escape/survive a house fire.

The safety visit includes reviews of:

  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors
    • Batteries changed IF PROVIDED BY HOMEOWNER AND DETECTOR IS ACCESSIBLE
  • Kitchen and cooking safety
  • Electrical hazards
  • Heating safety
  • Slip, trip, and fall hazards
  • Home exit planning
  • File of Life
  • Lock box program

If you would like to schedule a home safety visit, please fill out the information below, and we will contact you to schedule a visit. If you are a resident of a 55+ community, please be patient as we tend to schedule these in blocks a few times throughout the year.

Please do not call, as it ties up the phone line for possible emergencies.
