Senior SAFE Program

Older adults are more than twice as likely to die in a fire as those younger than age 65 as older adults may experience physical and mental changes that make it hard to react quickly in emergencies. Whether it is on topics such as cooking safety, smoking, electrical hazards, storm preparation, or medical emergencies, the East Bridgewater Fire Department is committed to working with the senior population to prepare them in the event of an emergency.

A large part of senior safety starts at home and ensuring the senior population is properly protected if there were a fire. East Bridgewater Fire runs its smoke detector program in which once a year, the fire department visits the home of senior citizens, checks their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and changes the batteries, all at no cost to the resident. It is a proven fact that smoke detectors save lives and East Bridgewater Fire is honored to work with the seniors of the community to help keep them protected.

The Senior SAFE program is funded by an annually awarded competitive grant offered by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.
